Named Professional Orchestra of the Year in 2014
by the Illinois Council of Orchestras
The Chicago Arts Orchestra was established by a group of musicians and creative artists to perform great music and to make music accessible and affordable. Comprised of professional musicians with active performance schedules in Chicago, the CAO aims to achieve its mission by providing educational opportunities for the community through the performance of historic and new orchestral music. The CAO seeks to be innovative in its programming and presentation of concerts.
The Chicago Arts Orchestra's vision is to redefine the classical music experience for everyone.
The musicians, board, staff, and volunteers of the Chicago Arts Orchestra agree on the following values:
We appreciate and support great music for the chamber orchestra.
Great music is a shared experience which can build pride in one's community and communicate across cultural barriers.
We believe that culturally enriching experiences should be accessible to all.
The orchestra will share its musical gifts and provide good musical values to others.
We will offer artistically adventurous and intellectually curious programming.
We will champion neglected works and find hidden gems within the standard repertoire.
The orchestra will perform in neighborhood venues at a range of ticket prices, so that our performances are "accessible to all".
The organization will remain financially solvent.
